Using Bitcoin

1. Educate Yourself

A “wallet” is basically the Bitcoin equivalent of a bank account. It allows you to receive bitcoins, store them, and then send them to others. There are two main types of wallets. A software wallet is one that you install on your own computer or mobile device.  A web wallet or hosted wallet is one that is hosted by a third party. They are often much easier to use, but you have to trust the provider to maintain high levels of security to protect your coins. The price of Bitcoin fluctuates. The price is constantly changing and growing at a rapid pace; if you buy 1 Bitcoin at the cost of $2,357 and a week later Bitcoin is at $2,957, you've gained $600. The money you leave in your wallet will increase or decrease as the price of Bitcoin increases and decreases.

2. Choose a Wallet

There is numerous choices for mobile and desktop that are both 3rd party web wallets or private wallets. For 3rd party exchanges we recommend Blockchain, Kraken or Coinbase for easy setup to purchase of bitcoin and begin trading and watching your money grow. Both maintain a solid level of security. For Private/Mobile wallets we recommend Electrum, Breadwallet or MyCelium depending on if you have iOS or Android.

3. Get some Bitcoin

Once you have your wallet chosen, there is a number of ways to acquire bitcoin. You can purchase from exchanges like Coinbase, Gemini and Kraken; you can also buy right from your mobile wallet with Coinbase, BreadWallet and others. You can use any major credit/debit or bank account, you can go to a local ATM and use cash, or you can meet people close to you on localbitcoins.com and use cash, bank or debit. All options require some kind of security to prevent scamming.

4. Using your Bitcoin

Once you've made a Wallet and bought some Bitcoin, you're ready to use it.
